Buried in Baseball

Buried underneath the stacks of baseball headlines including Bonds's indictment and A-Rod resigning with the Bombers...is the story that Marty's booth partner and Kroger's favorite ad-man, Nuxy, has moved on to the diamond on the other side of Ray Kinsella's Iowa cornfield.

I think we should all take a moment and I defer to the baseball geniuses (geniui for the Latin fans) of TNH staff to share any statistics/anecdotes about our slurring broadcaster. If nothing else, we should all raise a glass to "Ol' Lefty" this weekend.

Another raise of the glass and safe travels to TNH staff's first satellite coverage this weekend in South Bend. Have a good time guys!

No joke but there is a Joe Nuxhall shrine set up in our kitchen right now. Bobbleheads, books, pictures, etc. This is to go along with the Reds flag on our door and the plastic Cincinnati Reds batting helmet sitting on top of our mailbox.

As was the popular saying here in Cincy, Joe has rounded third and headed home. RIP, Joe.

Fellas,

A post on ND will come later...but today was really the first day I could read everything on the "ol left hander".

I compare Joe with my grandpa Earl. Both roughly the same age, tall left handed pitchers with a true love for Cincinnati and the Reds. Everytime I heard Joe on the radio, I pictured Earl.

And while Joe's dead air silence was always funny, everytime you turned the game on 700 and heard nothing, you KNEW Joe was doing the game.

One of the neat things about Cincy and 700 is that on a summer night with Marty and Joe on the radio, it could be 1975 or 2007, you wouldnt know...and I think thats what made it so special to me.

RIP Joe...summer nights in Cincy will never be the same.
