6 months of heartache

Gentlemen,

The season is upon us. Let me hear your predictions for the 2008 MLB season. I'll go first...guess who wins it all??

NL:
East: Mets (Santana wins 20, Wright and Reyes lead the way)
Central: Cubs (Zambrano wins 20, Wood is a dominant closer and Fukudome becomes my new favorite player)
West: Dodgers (Pitching and Torre)
Wild Card: D-Backs (Haren and Webb)

**Redlegs: 86-76 good for a 2nd place finish 3 games behind the Cubs and 1 game behind the D-Backs (Bruce and Votto lead the way, Dunn hits 45 bombs and is almost traded midseason and Johnny Cueto finishes 2nd in ROY voting going 14-7 with sub 4 ERA)

Cy Young: Santana
Hitting Title: Holliday
HR: Howard
MVP: David Wright
ROY: Kosuke Fukudome

AL:
East: Red Sox (spit on the gloves, slap the hands)
Central: Tigers (Miggy does it all)
West: Seattle (Best pitching in weak division)
Wild Card: Indians (finally the Yanks don't make the postseason)

Cy Young: CC Sabathia
Hitting Title: Miguel Cabrera
HR Title: David Ortiz
MVP: Miguel Cabrera
ROY: Jacob Ellsbury

NL: Cubs over Dodgers, Mets over D-Backs, Cubs over Mets in 7
AL: Red Sox over Indians, Tigers over Seattle, Tigers over Red Sox in 6

World Series: THE 100 YEAR ANNIVERSARY! Cubbies win it all over the Tigers in 7. World Series MVP: Kerry Wood with 3 saves and a win.

Thoughts? Go Cubs.

I think Hankles picks are a carbon copy of the Sports Illustrated MLB preview. Time to crosscheck. And that's interesting because I know for a fact that Mike does not get SI. Just an amazing coincidence.

SI predicts Yanks, Tigers and Angels with Red Sox in the Wild. Mets, Cubbies, Rockies with DBack in the Wild.

Tigers over Yanks; Cubbies over Rockies. Tig-res over Cub-eyes. I guess that stuck out to me.

They clock the Reds at 87-75, one game out of the WC spot.

The Nats will surprise. I'm bullish on Vegas' O/U line of 68.5 victories.

I also like the Cubbies. The symmetry of 100 years between titles is too large to ignore. You'll hear a lot about Tinker to Evers to Chance and "Three Finger" Mordecai Brown before this season is in the books.

NL:

East: Mets, a late season acquisition of Bonds puts them over the top, but ends up killing them in the playoffs as Bonds chokes in the big spot.
Central: Cubs, only good team from start to finish in the division.
West: Arizona
Wild Card: Phillies by a half game over a surging Redlegs.
Pennant: Cubbies, followed quickly by Hanley spending his life savings on tickets to all seven games.

Cy Young: Zambrano, best pitcher on the best team.
MVP: David Wright
ROY: Koske Fukudome: Honestly I am surprised Hanley doesn’t already have his jersey.
Coach of the Year: Loooouuuuuu!!!

AL: I completely don’t care about the AL

East: BoSox
Central: Indians
West: Anaheim
Wild Card: Detroit as Hank Steinbrenner is seen choking Joe Girardi after the end of the season.
Pennant: Indians

Cy Young: CC Sabathia
MVP: Grady Sizemore
ROY: Jacoby Ellsbury (is he eligible, I never understood eligibility for this one since some people can win it even though they made an appearance the year before.)
Coach of the Year: Eric Wedge

World Series Champ: I would love to put the Cubbies here, but I would feel cliché and if they won I think Hanley’s head would actually explode, so for sanity’s sake I say the Cleveland Indians in 6.

Redlegs: poor start as Harang is the only thing keeping them together through an awkward growing period for the young staff through June; but they turn it around after the break and charge to an 85-77 finish, just out of the playoffs.
