Playoffs Week One

Time for the second season to begin.

Let's seen if Een can pull a Yaz and win the Triple Crown - Regular Season Pickem, Fantasy and Playoff Pickem. Such a feat would be quite remarkable.

Let's dive into this week's lines:

atlanta (-2) ARIZONA 51
indianapolis (-1) SAN DIEGO 51

baltimore (-3) MIAMI 37
philadelphia (-3) MINNESOTA 42

All the roadies are favored.

Remeber the trend lines from this season:

Favorites 120-128-8
Underdogs 128-120-8

Home Chalk 77-89-6
Road Chalk 42-39-2
Home Dogs 39-42-2
Road Dogs 89-77-6

Homes 116-131-8
Roads 131-116-8

Atlanta and the over
Kurt warner is destined to choke, and Atlanta is too good of a story to end in the wild card.

Indy and the over
LT already has his excuse prepared, and Indy is healthy and hasn't peaked yet

Baltimore and the under
Chad Pennington will fold in the face of a real defense, and it doesn't bode well when your city is already happy with your performance before the playoffs even start.

Phily and the under
Tavaris Jackson and a running back with fumbalitis vs. Donovan Choke-nab, anyone else think a 10-7 game is incredibly possible?

Atlanta and the over
Neither of these teams is planning to bring a defense. Arizona, like Kurt Warner, peaked weeks ago.

Indy and the over
Philip Rivers does not deserve this kind of shabby treatment. Oh, wait, yes he does. And Peyton will pick their D apart.

Miami and the over
I just think the Dolphins are better than the Ravens. And because Ricky Williams will get high going into battle, like the Mongols, then immediately retire after the playoffs.

Hubert H. Humphrey and the under
If it were possible, I'd select the field turf to win this game.
Honestly, I think they're going to hand the ball to Purple Jesus 40 times. Childress has been playing possum this year, I can sense it, throwing so often for no good reason. It was all setting up a crazy playoff run where Peterson scores the team's only points. I think he fumbles twice and the Vikes still win.

Atlanta and under
Teams will play not to lose. I have a sneaky suspicion this game will not be as exciting as we think.

Indy and under
Teams will play not to lose. Manning wins it in the 4th quarter.

Baltimore and under
Teams will play not to lose (noticing a theme?) Rookie QB vs. middle-of-the-pack off/def. Maybe another snoozer.

Minnesota and under
Eagles (in a blatantly contrarian move) actually play to win, but they pass too much and lose. Also, Vikes fans have nothing else to look forward to but 4 months of cold and dark, so they'll bring on the noise (but leave the funk at home).

Also...

Really cool analysis on the NY Times website (I know...who would have guessed?)

http://projects.nytimes.com/nfl2009?8dpc

This is the kind of thing ESPN should be doing instead of gradually becoming the TMZ for sports.

Wow, Ian, I could not agree more. I avoid ESPN.com like the plague, but if they did way more stuff like that, I'd be there all the time.
Just like Covington.

Cheers!

I didn't think it was possible to be interested in the ECU UK game...but with the flu, I'm fascinated. My body feels like Ian's after he got crushed in that football game we played...

was it Carl Albrecht?
