There's Only One October...

After a college bowl game length break, the Senior Circuit Champion Rockies visit the AL Champ Red Sox tonight to start Game One of the Fall Classic.

Who you got?

The Rockies team, touched by God? Winners of 21 of the last 22?

Or the BoSox, win their $143M payroll? The team with the momentum? The team with a reputation for beating up senior citizens?

Early Vegas lines put the Sox at -220 and the Rox at +180. Even with all the analysts calling this a mismatch, I have to think that the Rockies stand a chance. If they can get by Beckett tonight, they will be well on their way to winning it at Coors in five.

What's your prediction?

Does anyone think that God cares about athletics? Look at the success of the Lions and the Rockies.

On one hand, you think that nothing is too small for God to care about, but on the other... really? seriously?

Just my .02

I'm rooting for the Rocks.
I'm also rooting for it to snow during games 4, 5 and 6, just to see that happen.

I think this layoff is dangerous, though a Jayson Stark article today did point out that of the 6 teams with layoffs this large or larger in the last 100 years, four have gone on to win the series.

In answer to your question Dav, if God is in fact omnipotent and omniscient, then there would be no reason for him not to care about sports, because it would be no skin off his nose, yes?

If you can know and do everything constantly, then sports would be just another thing to know and do. So yes, if God exists, he is fully invested in this series.

Ian? Thoughts?

I find it hilarious that the Rockies carry around this God-chip on their shoulder. I wonder who God pulled for before 1993? And I bet the Marlins are wondering why He picked the Rockies.
