And we shall call him "The Corduroy Kid"

So here's our most recent news out of Red's Country.

I'm glad to see that we're making the requisite moves to back up the recent "win now" attitude that the Baker hiring represents. I'm worried, though, because this contract is so similar to the deal that Milton received right before his career went in the crap-tin. Also, this is a guy whose career ERA has been all over the map depending on the year.

Basically, we bought the guy for five years, just shy of 50 million dollars. He'll be 36 at the end of the contract, 37 if we pick up the option. Is that money well spent? Seems like a lot to me, and it feels like the fact that the Brewers and the Astros were the other two teams in that horserace drove the price higher than it would otherwise have gone.

I'm going to vote on the positive side, however, and say we get our money's worth. Sound off.

Don't sweat it...

I got to see a bunch of this guy at the end of this past season as Brewer-madness swept the entire south-eastern Wisconsin region. He's the real deal.

Plus, he's already faced the NL Central under pressure and got the job done (at home anyway). Barring injury (underlined twelve times) he should help immediately and significantly.

He's fun to watch...he's almost as crazy as Zambrano. He will be an upgrade to what the Reds had...David "stormy" Weathers. This will help the club...yes, they overpaid, but you have to these days to get a real pitcher into GABP.

As Phil said last night as we ran into all of MHS at Arthurs (Will Minor, Hanna Dickinson, Jen Whittlesey, Jesse Rogowski and Lockwood Zaring), this shows the reds are willing to win NOW.

poker tap to Castellini and the boys for anteing up....

I think this deal stinks.

Closers are never worth the deals that they are getting, especially older closers.

Why is there so much value placed on getting the last three outs of the game? Are runs scored in the ninth inning counted double compared to the sixth inning?

I see this deal backfiring.
