I like the idea of this post Dav. I too predict Roger Clemens will be on the list. I don't think there's any question that Gagne should be on the list as we went from one of the most dominant pitchers to a barely mentionable who can't get a fastball above 85!!

The only one I can think that you left off Dav is Bret Boone- who spent the first half of his career as a solid second baseman who was scrappy at the plate to all of a sudden looking like Arnold in Seattle and having 30 HR 100 RBI seasons and in fact leading the majors in RBI's in the 2001 season.

But the interesting thing is he went from making beans (less than $1 million a season to making $8 million in SEA for his last 4 seasons before he faded away into obscurity). I believe he is wasting away in some turbo gym and now weighs 300 lbs (ala Ben Stiller in Dodgeball at the end).

We should make a list of who hasn't done steroids. It would be a heck of a lot shorter.

As for big names?

A-Rod
Pujols
Manny
Ortiz
Bonds (duh)
Clemens
Pettite
Prior

Really, this list could go on and on.

Dave, no love for Pujols? I am more convinced of him juicing than anybody outside of Clemens.

I will be SHOCKED if ARod is on the list. That will be extremely surprising to me.

Pettitte too? Seems like a bit of a reach to me. But who knows. If Clemens was an abuser, makes sense for Pettitte too.

How about one name out there as a true 'reach'?

Phil, your's is A-Rod?

Is that going to be the biggest, most surprising?

In other news, what name would hurt baseball the most?

My guess -- Cal Ripken, Jr. If he is fingered, all hell will break loose.

My most shocked list:

Current players: A-Rod, Griffey Jr.

Past players: Cal Ripken, Jr., Pete Rose (although I wouldn't put it past Bud to pay Mitchell to toss his name in there to deny any chance of him ever making it in the HOF!)

also, fernando vina is SOOOOO fired from baseball tonight.

Couple of thoughts:
1. do they factor in that David Justice was probably using the steroids to better beat his wife, not hit dingers?

2. does anyone else notice a disturbing amount of Reds? Could the Queen city be a hotbed of HGH distribution?

3. Can Ron Villone get a refund? they obviously did not work.

4. Since Denny Neagle was named do you think Laurie Sturtz should also be named?... you think she knew about it?

Hampton, Matthew A said...

there is a "photo-stat" of a personal check from denny neagle to laurie sturtz in the mitchell report.

both parties deny using steroids.

speaking of refunds, with so many reds pitchers and former pitchers on there — neagle, villone, ryan franklin, mike stanton — it begs the question: why is our pitching staff not better?

This list is just the absolute tip of the iceberg. It's a shame some players will have to go through the P.R. nightmare while others won't. Also, baseball and everybody associated with it pretty much turned a blind eye to the problem. The real culprits aren't just on this list, they are also in MLB clubhouses, front offices, league offices, etc. Just an all around sickening event. Too bad they can't make a list of clean guys, so we know who is legit in this ultra-tainted baseball era.

Also, note Jason Varitek's inclusion. Me thinks that the whole post 2002 Boston Red Sox teams were a lot more juiced than not juiced. At least they got to go up against an equally juiced NYY the whole time.

Finally, Hal Morris? I feel like my childhood was a lie.
